Heiner Müller Anatomie Titus Fall of Rome
Un commentaire de Shakespeare
direction Philippe Vincent

Müller Factory :

Shakespeare Factory was the title chosen by Heiner Müller to bring his work on Shakespeare's plays together. He used to say that, for his theatre, every Shakespeare translation was like "a blood transfusion".
Today, many artists maintain the same relationship with Müller's work.
Since his death in 1995, he has continued to influence many artistic practices far beyond
strictly theatrical spheres: composers, visual artists, choreographers and film directors have taken his texts in order to tie them in with their own creative approach.
Even if he is henceforth considered a "classic", perhaps the most important European playwright
since Brecht, it hardly seems productive to pay tribute to him in that capacity or to construct a monument to him. What we want to do is to explore the strange power of his influence beyond the theatre, to follow the shock waves provoked by his work, to observe what is growing on his grave. If the Müller Factory is meant to be a dialogue with a dead man, it is to bring to light the future buried with him.

The "Scènes" team

The complete program of the Müller Factory event is available in .pdf form on the Théâtre la Croix Rousse website (french language).

The Scènes company is associated with the Théâtre de La Croix-Rousse. As early as 1995, the year the theatre opened, it played Hamlet there. Since then, its loyalty has never flagged. Philippe Vincent has created most of his plays there: L'affaire de la rue de Lourcine, The Mission, The Maids and Waiting for Richard. Last season, he directed Brecht's Fatzer at SUBSISTANCES in co-production with the Théâtre de la Croix-Rousse. This Müller Factory, conceived in line with this rather exceptional artistic collaboration, would never have seen the light of day without this faithful support, today made official by a three-year agreement between the City of Lyon, Les Subsistances and the Théâtre de la Croix-Rousse.
